Speaking of franchises that have been irrelevant in recent times (but definitely don't deserve to be), here's F-Zero!į-Zero was Nintendo's premier racing game franchise until Mario Kart hit the stands and even though they have very different aesthetics and gameplay mechanics, Nintendo seem to eventually have abandoned the former after 2003's F-Zero GX for the Nintendo GameCube which was the last major title in the series (though the anime-spinoff based F-Zero: Climax was released for the Gameboy Advance in 2004).Įven though F-Zero has been notably absent from Nintendo's slate of new titles for almost two decades at this point, Captain Falcon has stayed alive through the wonders of Super Smash Bros. Nick's Pick: Black Shadow (F-Zero series) Personally, I'd be all for Porky's inclusion. While there a lot of strikes against the idea of having Porky as a playable character, I think there are also a lot of signs that it could still happen.
He'd definitely need to offer something different compared to Ness and Lucas' use of psychic attacks. I imagine this Bed Mecha pilot would attack using lasers, robotic copies that explode and a flurry of stabs using a spider leg. If Porky were to join as a DLC challenger, then he'd also need to be scaled down just like the Metroid villain. Ridley got the greatest promotion of all and became a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. A player can collect Spirits for Tabuu, Duon, Rayquaza, Petey Piranha, Master Core and even the Fighting Alloy Team. What's funny is that many of other Smash's previous unplayable characters at least received some sort of acknowledgement in the form of Spirits. Even in the Absolutely Safe Capsule's Spirit, Porky's name never even gets dropped in the text.
Examples of characters that got referenced as a Spirit over Porky include Ness's Father, Buzz Buzz, Starman, Flying Man, Ramblin' Evil Mushroom and Dungeon Man. Ultimate while many other characters from the Earthbound / Mother series do. Poor Porky doesn't even so much as get a Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Seeing this robotic boss alongside Marx, Ganon, Giga Bowser, Rathalos, Dracula and Master Hand & Crazy Hand just makes it feel like something is out of place. Somehow, the generic Galleom got chosen over the Earthbound / Mother villain. Ultimate is extremely strange since he acted as a boss in Brawl's Subspace Emissary story mode. Ultimate's gargantuan roster since he'd have to fight in his "Bed Mecha."ĭespite Earthbound's relevance problem, the snobby kid not even seeing so much as a mention in Super Smash Bros.
However, Porky is able to offer something truly unique to Super Smash Bros. Porky, an antagonistic character that goes against Earthbound's Ness and Mother 3's Lucas, is a bit of an oddball pick considering the series' lack of relevance in recent times. Justin's Pick: Porky (Mother/Earthbound series) Now without further ado, here are our picks in all of their glory. Ultimate since there wasn't really any franchise we could think of where a villain would take precedence over the hero (at least not any we'd like to see in the roster). There weren't really any rules to who could be picked except of course that they be from a video game, but unsurprisingly we still just happened to only focus on villains of franchises already in Super Smash Bros. We decided to pick three video game villains each we'd like to see in Super Smash Bros.
